Hurricane Michael Aftermath

Several months before Hurricane Michael slammed the west coast of Florida, we made reservations for our family to stay in a beachfront condo in Panama City Beach for Thanksgiving. We had a great time and you can read all about it and see our vacation pictures in the article titled Castle in the Sky. It had been six weeks since the storm passed through the area, but the evidence of damage was still everywhere.

Below are pictures that I took of the damage in Panama City. These pictures were taken out the car window on our drive home so a few are a little blurry. We did not drive around specifically looking for damage, this is just what we saw on the main roads that were on our path back to the east coast. Note all of the power lines that are not only drooping but laying on the ground. The pictures also show two giant trees that were completely uprooted. The power of that storm was incredible! Keep in mind that six weeks had already passed when these pictures were taken. It is evident the cleanup and restoration will take months, if not years. Please join us in continuing to pray for those affected and lending a helping hand as the opportunity arises.

You can either play these as a slideshow by clicking the controls that will appear in the center of the images or you can go through them one by one at your own pace by using the arrows at the outer edges.

The pictures below were taken in Panama City Beach where we stayed. The damage in that area was not as severe as Panama City but still devastating to many. The last few pictures are of dead fish that littered the beach. I’m not sure if the storm played a part in that or just Red Tide which has affected both coasts of Florida this year.

Panama City and Panama City Beach are beautiful places to visit, even as they are recovering from this storm. Consider taking your next vacation there and spending your tourist dollars to help that local economy. Don’t forget to read Castle in the Sky to see what a great vacation spot it is and how much fun you can have there!

Wow, this was interesting to me having just went through a 7.0 earthquake in Alaska that damaged roads, homes, and infrastructure. Still cleaning up the mess, actually. We didn’t lose any power lines though, and the damage was more to larger buildings (schools etc). Thanks to good building codes, there were zero deaths and minimal injuries associated with the event. (Nov 30th, 2018). We have had about 2700 after shocks since then, with 32 of them over 4.0 in magnitude. Nature is awesome, and can be awesomely destructive.

Wow! With earthquakes, I don’t guess you have any advance warning. That would be so scary! Living on the east coast of Florida we have gone through our share of hurricanes. At least you know they are coming and can make some preparations. Of course, when they are as powerful as Hurricane Michael even the best preps don’t protect 100%. I’m glad everyone was safe through your recent earthquake.

Yes. We didn’t drive to Mexico Beach which was hit the hardest in that area. The amount of destruction was incredible.
