Sureties from Christ's Resurrection

The resurrection of Christ it the cornerstone of Christianity and the foundation of faith for Christians around the globe. Without the resurrection of Jesus, the Christian faith is baseless, void, and hopeless.

The Apostle Paul makes this point clear in his first letter to the Church in Corinth (1 Corinthians 15:16-17). In it he informs the church, “For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised; and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins.” He continues with some good news (1 Corinthians 15:20), “But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep.”

It is in the resurrection of Jesus where our sins are eternally forgiven, and we are assured of our regeneration and justification before Almighty God.

Christ’s resurrection ensures our regeneration

(1 Peter 1:3; Philippians 3:10; Ephesians 1:19-20; Romans 6:4, 11, 14; 1 Corinthians 15:17)

The Apostle Peter states in 1 Peter 1:3, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” What Peter is telling his audience is that Christ carried our sins away forever through His death on the cross. Therefore, we have been cleansed of all unrighteousness through His death, burial and power over death.

We have been given a new lease on life, life everlasting! It is our assurance that when we place our faith and trust in the Savior our sins are forgiven by the Father and paid for by the Son. At that point where mankind meets Divinity, the Holy Spirit enters our hearts and makes us as if we had no sin before the Father. This is regeneration, a new life powered by the Holy Spirit to produce good fruitful works for the Father.

Christ’s resurrection ensures our justification

(Romans 4:25; 5:6-8; Ephesians 2:6; Galatians 3)

Jesus’ death was a propitiation for our sins (1 John 2:2). What that means, in common language, is that Jesus paid the penalty for our sins when He carried them to the cross. It was a price no one on earth could pay for there is nothing man can do to get right with a holy and just God. Our justification (rightness with God) can only be found in the blood of Jesus Christ. It was a monumental achievement demonstrated by an eternal love the Son had for His Father’s children.

Christ’s resurrection ensures that we will also receive perfect resurrection bodies

(1 Corinthians 6:14; 15:12-58; 2 Corinthians 4:14)

We live in imperfect bodies. Deformities, deficiencies, diseases, and death abound and prevail in these bodies. However, God promises we will one day inhabit new bodies, bodies that are different than the ones we currently experience. Those bodies will be without disease. There will be no deficiencies, and deformities will be a thing of the past. But most glorious of all is that those bodies will never experience death! The splendor of our heavenly bodies will be different than that of our earthly bodies (1 Corinthians 15:40).

The guaranteed hope of one day standing before Jesus and partaking in heavenly bliss is what sustains and powers our life here on earth. Paul said that Jesus was the firstfruit of many to come. The joy of being regenerated to a new life in Christ combined with knowing we are justified in His presence should power every Christian believer with the hope of one day standing before their Creator and hearing the most glorious of words, “Well done my good and faithful servant.” All of this because of Jesus’ resurrection. HE IS ALIVE!
