Book Review: All In: You are One Decision Away from a Totally Different Life by Mark Batterson
If you’re looking for a book to inspire you to action, to motivate you to walk the Christian walk and to encourage the God-given passion you have to serve Christ, look no further than this book! Pastor Mark has poured out his heart and craving for believers to be obedient to the will and call of the Lord Jesus, leaving nothing to misinterpretation. This book has one purpose, and one purpose only: to remind Christians that when Christ calls us to service, He calls 100% of us. It can be summed up in one of Mark’s potent quotes in the introduction, “Jesus didn’t die to keep us safe, He died to make us dangerous.”
Mark uses relevant analogies, people and events from the Bible, and personal stories to motivate Christians and convey his message of giving it all to God. These tools richly expound upon the many Biblical mandates to live the Christian life. Believers will not only relate to his stories but be moved to discover, develop and deploy their God-given spiritual gifts to the glory of the Almighty!
Just like Copernicus turned the scientific world upside down, Mark says we need to shock the world by being radical in our zeal to share the gospel of reconciliation. He coins a term, “the inverted gospel,” which simply is when a believer asks Jesus to follow them and their fleshly desires rather than themselves committing their lives to follow Jesus and His promptings. The inverted gospel has slowly crept into our churches and needs to be purged from within. Mark gently reminds us that we need to take a personal assessment of our commitment and walk with Jesus if we are to be effective for the Kingdom. If Jesus is not Lord of all, then He is not Lord at all!
This book is full of useful antidotes to encourage you and me to serve Christ. It’s a fresh pill to swallow when we become lethargic in our calling. Personally, I needed to read this book, it was the right time in my life. I had become complacent in my walk with Christ and needed this word of encouragement to lift me up. This is a very good book and I rate it a 4.8 out of 5.0. It’s worth the small investment!
