God's Power to Change Your Life

Book Review: God’s Power to Change Your Life by Rick Warren

I have been a fan of Pastor Rick Warren since he first wrote the best-selling book The Purpose Driven Life (2002). I believe that God has had His hand over that man and his ministry since he began Saddleback Church in the late 1990’s.

This book is a re-publish of a small book Rick wrote in 1990 called The Power to Change Your Life. I haven’t read that book, but I find it very interesting that he changed the title to reflect God’s power and not our power. That is the message conveyed in this book, that God wants us to obey Him and rely fully upon the Holy Spirit to change us from within to become what He wants us to be for His glory. It emphasizes basic Christian principles like prayer, discipline, bible study and community support.

In typical Warren style, the book is very easy to read and hard to put down. It has very little “fluff” and is chocked-full of biblical references supporting the chapter titles.

This is a book you want to give to people who are battling depression or have a poor self-image to help lift them up. It will gently guide them to their Creator and help them to understand who they really are in the eyes of God.

Not surprisingly, I give this book a full 5.0 out of 5.0 for its message and usefulness.
