Book Review: The Hidden Face of God: Science Reveals the Ultimate Truth by Gerald L. Schroeder
Lately, I’ve been engrossed with the endless possibilities the world of physics brings to the theological thought table. What I mean by that is I desire to know more about the universe our infinite and powerful God created for us. This new inquisitiveness is not to solidify my belief, but to expand upon it. What I am discovering, which comes as no surprise, is the latest breakthroughs in physics and astronomy do more to support the theology of the Bible than refute it.
One of the modern leaders in the world of physics is renown Jewish scientist and theologian Gerald Schroeder. As a graduate (Ph.D.) of MIT in physics, he has written numerous books outlining the many recent discoveries in science and how they play into the making of our universe. This particular book is his third bombshell to hit the market. In it, he takes a bold step forward to demonstrate that science, when properly understood, provides positive reasons for faith in God.
What I particularly like about this book is Schroeder’s ability to “simplify” physics to the common layman like myself. He logically and methodically explains physics phenomena like the bending of space and time which would lead anyone to understand that God’s timing is not man’s timing and that 1,000 years to man is but 1 day to God (2 Peter 3:8; Psalm 90:4). Our perception of time is not what we think it is. What makes this fact even more astounding is that men of old (King David) suggested it!
This book is easy reading. It makes sense of a lot of biblical scientific statements and gives the reader comfort in knowing that as scientist continue to probe and discover the hidden jewels of the universe they are only discovering more and more of an awe-inspiring God. I highly recommend it for the curious as well as the scientifically minded individuals who are seeking to understand the “Hidden Face of God.” I rate this book up there in the top as 5.0 out of 5.0.
