Book Review: This is the Day: Reclaim Your Dream. Ignite Your Passion. Live Your Purpose by Tim Tebow with A.J. Gregory
The very purpose God created us was to live our lives for His glory (John 15:8; Romans 8:28). Athlete and sports commentator Tim Tebow understands that mandate clearly. In his latest book, This Is The Day, Tim shares stories from his life of service revealing how God has used him in unique and miraculous ways to express His glory. He delves into his past as the son of a missionary family, a college Heisman Trophy quarterback, his busy life as a sports commentator and other venues.
His stories are both interesting and inspirational. What makes this book relational is that the stories are ones that we all can relate with because he lives his life with circumstances befitting any individual in America. For example, he meets a complete stranger sitting next to him on an airplane. He listens attentively to their tumultuous life and is prompted by God to share the gospel. This is something we can all do. Another example is the fact that he was trying to discern God’s will in his life (like many of us!) and decides to pursue a career in baseball when everyone in his circle of friends advised otherwise. These are what make this book a favorite of mine – I can relate with almost everything he shares because he is “real”.
He shares solid and truthful life lessons such as the past doesn’t define you, you’re not here to please others, start every day with thanksgiving and praise, and work as if you’re working for the Lord. He reminds the reader that if they have faith in Jesus and give their heart to Him, they are adopted and a child of the living King. Their worth is not defined by others, but by the truth of the Gospel. This alone is worth the purchase price of the book!
His work with underprivileged kids via the Tim Tebow Foundation is awe-inspiring. He shares a multitude of stories of inspiration from his work in this foundation. His vision is clear, to bring the joy of knowing the Lord to kids who may otherwise never get an opportunity to hear that they are loved by their Creator because of their physical or mental struggles.
Overall, this is a wonderful book! If you take some notes of the inspiring quotes and truths that he shares and apply them to your life, they are sure to change you from the inside out. If you have a friend who is a big sports fanatic, yet doesn’t know the Lord, this is a great gift to give them. This is one book that has earned a permanent spot in my personal library. I rate it 4.5 out of 5.0.
