Life on Mission

Book Review: Life On Mission: Joining the Everyday Mission of God by Dustin Willis & Aaron Coe

This is a great book and one I would highly recommend for all my Christian friends to read. What makes it great is the message it conveys, that every born-again believer in Christ is on mission all the time and wherever they are. And we all need to be reminded of that!

This book is written by two authors who are both members of the Southern Baptists North American Missions Board. Both have been evangelists around the world and in the states. Right from the start you can sense their heart for lost souls and their passion for presenting the Gospel.

They begin by exposing the great need for people to know Jesus Christ. Not just overseas, but here domestically, too. For instance, there are 22 million people in New York City alone, 27,000 per square mile! The need for churches in that area alone is astonishing, yet they aren’t being established. This void is multiplied across our nation and throughout the world.

From the need to build churches (people, not buildings!) they proceed to remind us that God made us all for fellowship, that from the beginning of time God’s desire has been to have a relationship with His creation. From that relationship comes the passion to love Him, know Him and obey Him. Our love for God is what motivates us to lead others to Him.

After presenting the Gospel message to their readers, the authors proceed to give great examples of how to present the Gospel to everyday folks in our sphere of influence. This is the meat of the message in this book. They use a 4-word acrostic: Identify, Invest, Invite and Increase to help the reader be cognizant of opportunities to witness to the lost. The big takeaway for me was “invest.” I have to invest my time, money and effort into building relationships with my lost friends to be able to not only share the Gospel, but for them to “see” the Gospel in me.

All-in-all this is an easy read with a message we all need to hear. I will definitely keep this book in my personal library and read it again. I encourage you to go out and invest in it yourself … you won’t be disappointed. I give this book a 4.8 out of 5.0.
