Ramada Perry Georgia

We live in Florida and the rest of my family lives in Tennessee, so we have made the 11 – 12 hour drive (each way) back and forth many times over the last 30+ years. This year for Christmas we decided to cut the trip in half and stopped over in Georgia on the way up. I’m so glad we did! I get tired of sitting for so long and my legs cramp. I guess that’s one of the side effects of getting older!

We have used VRBO (Vacation Rentals by Owner) the past few years for our big family trips so I decided to look and see what they had available at the midway point for just two people. I was surprised to see that you can not only book houses/condos through the site, but they also offer regular hotel/motel accommodations. We ended up booking the Ramada in Perry, Georgia for Christmas night.

We made the reservation at the last minute (the day before check-in) and the listing showed no-smoking two double beds. We requested a king bed and was able to get one. Of course, the whole area was pretty much a ghost town that night. There are several hotels/motels all in the same area and the parking lots were empty at all of them. I guess not that many people spend Christmas night in a hotel in Perry, Georgia!

The Ramada by Wyndham Perry Near Fairgrounds is a typical motel. The room was quite spacious with the king bed, large dresser, easy chair/ottoman, two night stands, alarm clock, telephone, and a plain desk with chair. There was a decent sized wall mounted flat screen tv. There was one sink with a large vanity, free toiletries, and a hairdryer. The toilet and tub/shower were in a separate room. The shower curtain had one of those curved rods which give you more room in the shower which is nice. There was also a small refrigerator, microwave oven, and coffee maker. The fridge was very cold, in fact, the bottle of water I put in it had ice chunks after a few hours. In addition, next to the bathroom there is a full-size ironing board, iron and small wall-mounted rack with 4 clothes hangars.

The motel has an outdoor swimming pool with a nice large kiddie pool at the end. It also has a handicap lift to assist people with getting in and out of the pool.  I have only seen that once before in all of our travels. We did not use the pool (it was 55 degrees out). The breakfast area is VERY large, not your typical cramped motel/hotel breakfast space. It looks like it was probably once a full restaurant. The food was served on a restaurant-like buffet bar. There were scrambled eggs, gravy, grits, sausage, biscuits, fruit, cereal, and of course, a waffle-maker. The coffee was weak, but they also served orange juice, milk and what I assume was apple juice (it wasn’t labeled). The breakfast was certainly not anything to brag about but was typical for a motel serving free hot breakfast.

Below is a short YouTube video of pictures I took of the motel and our room.

The motel is in need of remodeling/updating. The only things somewhat modern were the flat-screen tv and the door locks which are the type that you wave the plastic key card in front of to unlock. If you are looking for modern accommodations then this is not the place for you (at least until they remodel). If you are just looking for a convenient stopping point for the night, like we were, then this would fit the bill. The motel is literally right next to I-75 at exit 136. You can hear the occasional soft rumble as what I assume is a large truck passing by, but it was not a distraction for me. I actually kind of like it as it was similar to being on an ocean and listening to the waves break. There are many restaurants in the area, at this exit and the next one that is a mile away. Although it was quite chilly out, the heater in the room kept us nice and warm. There was free wifi in the room. David didn’t have any problems with it but at first, I had trouble with the signal strength.

Here’s a partial list of amenities at the Ramada in Perry per their website:

  • pets allowed
  • free parking
  • free wifi in public areas and rooms
  • conference space and meeting rooms
  • free crib use on request
  • free hot breakfast
  • 2 floors – no elevators
  • cable tv
  • fitness facilities
  • in room climate control
  • iron/ironing board
  • free toiletries
  • hair dryer
  • free local calls
  • adjoining/connecting rooms available

Summary: If you are looking for a hot shower, decent bed, ok free breakfast and very convenient location off of I-75 in mid-Georgia (just south of Macon) then check out the Ramada in Perry. If you are looking for something a little more modern/upscale then I’d suggest seeing what other accommodations VRBO offers.
